Pronghorn Antelope
The Santa Fe Guiding Company LLC outfits and guides pronghorn antelope hunts on some of eastern New Mexico's finest ranches. The pronghorn antelope belongs to the family Antilocapradae meaning "antelope goat"- is a unique North American game animal that is very fun to hunt. The llano escatado of Southeastern New Mexico where we hunt is mixed with prime cattle range and dotted with agricultural crops of peanuts and wheat providing bucks with the extra nutrients to grow these unusually large horns. Most pronghorn populations average horn size for a mature buck antelope is twelve inches, here in the nutrient rich soils of eastern New Mexico we expect hunters to harvest 14-16 inch antelope with an occasional 17-18 whopper!
The rifle hunts are in late September over a weekend. We host the hunt parties in modern comfortable ranch housing, prepare our famous western style dining and spend our two days of hunting spotting and putting on long stalks to get in close to the buck of your choice. On Saturday evening, after a great day of trophy hunting and harvest, we put on a world class dove shoot at one of our water holes that wraps up the perfect day of hunting.
Spot and stalk is our preferred method of hunting. Guides and hunters spend a lot of time atop ranch windmills searching for the trophy of your dream then planning a long stalk that will take advantage of every tiny piece of cover to conceal you from the prying eyes of the antelope herd. This is the real challenge in a pronghorn hunt and successful hunters will be rewarded with a short shot under 300 yards and memories that will last a life time.
This is a great group or corporate get away for the weekend to build camaraderie and friendships while having a great time hunting antelope and dove. Nearly 100% of our hunters are successful in harvesting a trophy pronghorn and the dove shoot is very entertaining.
Archers have a place in pronghorn hunting with the Santa Fe Guiding Company as well. The hunt is five days in late August. Expect to spend your days spotting, hiding, stalking, hiding, popping up decoys, hiding and patiently waiting in one of our blinds located on water holes. Pope and Young books can be filled with the pronghorn we have on these ranches.
All licenses for pronghorn antelope are guaranteed land owner tags that do not require a hunter to enter the draw and are available up to the hunt dates for any given season and year.
Please call or email for available hunt dates, rates, details and to book your upcoming trophy desert mule deer hunt here in New Mexico.
